This isn’t one we expected to write, but a trademark issue means Ludi is now Spreo.
So this is the “yes, we rebranded again” post.
The Change
Ludi.co is now Spreo.io, effective July 1st 2026. Here’s the new logo:
We pronounce Spreo as “SPREE-OH”.
What it means
- All your existing links will redirect
- Nothing else is changing
- Whitelist
spreo.ioto receive our emails - No other action needed from you
- Get in touch with us if you have any questions
We have tried to minimise any chance of confusion, so hopefully you will only need to adjust to a new name again (us too).
Bye bye ‘Ludi’ - but why the change?
In short - for trademark reasons we can no longer use the name, Ludi.
In long - we originally renamed Metro Retro to Ludi in August 2025 - to reflect the tool we had built that went far beyond retrospectives - a full collaborative whiteboard for agile teams to do their planning, refinement, retros, workshops, and more.
In May 2026, we were served a cease and desist by a US-based company that owns a trademark for ‘Ludi’ in classes 9 and 42. This company operates in a different industry with no customer overlap, and their trademark specifies this. There are also several other products or services globally that use the name Ludi in some form.
Unfortunately, our legal counsel advised that there was a non-trivial risk the situation could escalate to a full legal case, due to the way they were using the mark. Even though our insurance would cover us in a trademark dispute, this would be hugely disruptive for us, potentially requiring us to appear in person in Delaware!
We definitely didn’t want to go through a second rebrand so soon, as anyone who’s done it will tell you, naming things is really hard. But given the choice of a short term pain, or potentially long and costly lawsuit, we opted to rebrand again.
That’s pretty much the whole story, I’m sure you can imagine how the rest went.
What does Spreo mean?
Spreo is the old scientific name for a small, highly social bird native to East Africa, now called the Superb Starling. It is celebrated for its striking iridescent plumage, featuring metallic blue and green feathers contrasted by a fiery red-orange belly and a crisp white breast band. It is also very cool.
To relate it to our Spreo:
- ‘Highly social’ - Spreo is a tool to use together. It helps remote teams feel, well, less remote.
- ‘Blue and green feathers and fiery red-orange belly’ - coincidentally close to our existing brand colours
- ‘Very cool’ - we are also very cool

Interesting Fact
Because every good blog post needs at least one fun fact
Spreo Starling’s have several harsh calls, the most complex of which is described as “a shrill, screeching skerrrreeee-cherrrroo-tcherreeeeeet.”
Not a million miles away from the noise I make after using Microsoft Azure!
Recap
So, to recap - Ludi is now called Spreo, and can be accessed at https://spreo.io.
There’s a new name, logo, and URL.
Nothing else changes.
